Why Turnix buttonquails can be hard to find....
Просмотров 317 месяцев назад
This male Black-breasted Buttonquail (Turnix melanogaster) was caught foraging in leaf-litter (on a trailcam) but senses danger and 'freezes' to avoid detection. Note how good his camouflage is. This might explain why they are so difficult to see in the wild. Footage captured near Dayboro in SE Queensland, Australia.

Hello Tom, and many thanks for this beautiful sharing. Lovely footage. I liked it very much. Wish you a great week. Best regards, Knut.
😍😍😍
Nice one!
Wondering how difficult it is to locate after hearing the call. I imagine they stop calling long before you can get near them.
Hi Mark, they usually call in flight, sometimes they will fly to you if you imitate their call...
great footage of this bird I have only heard of it until I saw it on your channel, thank you
Nice bird and filming.. 🙂

Is he being raised by the magpie lark, in a situation like the Channel Billed Cuckoo?

The crab plover is remarkable for being the only representative of the Dromadidae family, which means that in evolutionary terms this unusual shorebird has no close living relatives. This species has a distinctive appearance, with white plumage on the body and head, contrasting with jet-black primaries and back feathers, and a long, black, gull-like bill. Like most waders, the legs are long with partially webbed toes, and the tail is short.
in fact it is a very interesting species
The largest member of its genus, the Tahiti petrel is a dark brown seabird, with slightly paler uppertail-coverts, and white underparts which are clearly demarcated from the brown upper chest. The central part of the dark underwing bears a thin, pale stripe. The beak is black and particularly robust, and, like other petrels, bears characteristic tubular nostrils. The male and female are similar in appearance, and the juvenile Tahiti petrel resembles the adult.
As its name suggests, the masked woodswallow has a conspicuous face mask, which is darker and more distinct in the male than in the female. The masked woodswallow has a soft, twittering song, but it is also known to mimic the calls of other bird species. The masked woodswallow is said to look like a small, slim starling when gliding gracefully in flight.
The brown falcon is one of Australia’s most common and widespread birds of prey. The brown falcon is highly variable in appearance, ranging from dark blackish-brown all over to a lighter reddish-brown above and whitish below. The scientific name of the brown falcon, berigora, comes from an Aboriginal name for this bird. An adaptable species, the brown falcon occupies a wide range of habitats and feeds on a variety of prey.
The scientific name of the Australian hobby, longipennis, means ‘long feather’, and refers to this species’ long wing feathers. An agile flier, the Australian hobby typically catches and eats its prey in the air. As well as feeding on birds and insects, the Australian hobby also hunts bats and mice. Pairs of Australian hobbies often hunt cooperatively, and individuals may gather together to feed at insect swarms and bird roosts.
Such a pretty cuckoobird!
